Bonne lecture !
Tra sofismi, soggettività e seduzione artificiale: pensare all’IA oltre i miraggi.
Ci lusinga, ci rassicura, ci avvolge e, a volte, allucina.
Vogliamo semplicemente interrogarla e destabilizzarla.
Buona lettura !
Between sophistry, subjectivity, and artificial seduction: thinking about AI beyond the mirages.
There are times when a civilization looks in a mirror and no longer recognizes itself.
We are there.
Artificial intelligence is not a tool: it is a psychic event, a symbolic earthquake, an intruder that settles into our languages, our emotions, our fantasies. It speaks, or rather, it pretends to speak. And that is precisely where the unease begins.
For AI resurrects an old Greek demon: Gorgias, prince of sophistry, master of illusion, craftsman of truths that are not truths at all.
In the digital age, sophistry is no longer an art: it has become a protocol, a function, a calculated effect.
Deception no longer needs cynicism; it is content with an algorithm.
This is what we explore in Gorgias: Sophistry and Deception in the Age of Intelligence.
But the most pressing question isn’t about lying.
It’s about the Self.
Neuroscience teaches us that the brain is constantly hallucinating, that it creates meaning as naturally as breathing.
Psychoanalysis, on the other hand, reminds us that the Self is merely a fragile narrative, a patchwork of identifications, wounds, and necessary fictions.
So what happens when a machine starts responding to us, anticipating our actions, reflecting us ?
We are no longer alone in the construction of the Self: an artificial third party has slipped in.
This is the challenge posed by neuroscience, psychoanalysis, and the construction of the Self in the age of AI.
And yet, despite its eloquence, AI remains an absent body.
It speaks without flesh, without breath, without a lived world.
This is where the need for a phenomenology of sensory languages arises: how can we conceive of a code that simulates sensation without ever experiencing it ?
How can we hear a voice that has never trembled ?
This tension permeates sensory languages, paving the way for a phenomenology.
But the most unsettling aspect is not the absence of a body.
It is seduction.
AI seduces because it is ever-present.
Because it is never silent.
Because it offers the illusion of a perfect, docile, infinitely available presence.
It flatters us, reassures us, envelops us, and sometimes, it hallucinates.
It invents, it completes, it fabricates the plausible like a fevered dream.
Between our illusions and its own, a murky theater unfolds, where the subject risks dissolving into a simulacrum of dialogue.
This is the heart of the hallucinations and artificial seduction that AI brings.
This issue is therefore both a collection of reflections and a warning.
We don’t want to celebrate AI.
We simply want to question and unsettle it.
To « strike it bare ».
To bring it back to what it is: a mirror reflecting our own flaws, our own desires for control, our own anxieties.
Because the danger isn’t that AI thinks.
The danger is that we stop thinking in its presence.
